6/1/2007 5:46:10 PM The statistics can give parents cold chills. One in five children is solicited for sex on the Internet, and when asked, 39 percent of children surveyed said they would freely give out their home addresses and personal information. Of all unsolicited e-mail, 40 percent of it contains pornographic information, many times appearing as harmless promotions. And, according to a survey done by the FBI, if a child enters a chat room, he or she has a 100 percent chance of coming in contact with a sexual predator.

Numbers like these are the reason Pastor David Spoon of Aletheia Community Church in Temecula founded Noah’s Internet, the first faith-based search engine for children. It protects them with what Spoon calls “one of the most advanced Internet safety software programs in the world.” “People try to use a filter system to protect kids, but as fast as they build porn and hate sites, the faster they can go around a filter. It’s so out of control,” he said. “Ours is a completely different technology.”

When kids log in, Spoon said, they are greeted with an inspirational Christian message or messages the parent can type in for their child and an interface that allows the child to surf the Internet as they normally would. The difference is that the technology only allows the child to visit Web sites that have been pre-approved by a group of pastors, parents and teachers who have been trained to recognize which sites are appropriate for children. If the child tries to bypass the browser, he or she will be sent promptly back to Noah’s Internet, which assures parents that their children cannot accidentally stumble across questionable material. Noah’s Internet is easily downloadable and 100-percent operational immediately.

It costs $20 a year and, according to Spoon, is geared for children ages 4 to 12. “If they have trouble, we have customer service,” he added. Spoon said he and a friend got the idea for such a browser when the friend’s daughter got full instructions on the Internet about how to build a gun. They prayed about it and founded the company with two systems, one generic and one faith-based. Spoon calls the Christian version “our heart and soul.” Spoon estimates that about 20,000 children are now using the browser and expects the company to go national any day. It’s just one more way to protect your child, he said. “For children, unless you’re with them, you’re not seeing what they are seeing,” he stated. “It’s amazing.”

Re: Protecting Your Children On The Internet

Dear Parents, Grandparents and Guardians:

Did you know that your children could be in serious danger if they surf the Internet unprotected? The truth is that most people don’t understand how dangerous the Internet really is. We believe our calling is to bring awareness to this issue. Unfortunately after several months of researching, we came across some very terrifying statistics.

Did you know that..?

1 in 5 children are solicited for sex on the Internet.

39% of the children surveyed said they would freely give out their home address and personal information.

40% of all unsolicited email contains pornographic information, many times appearing as harmless promotions to trick kids. YOU may have experienced these in your email box.

Here’s the problem with the Internet:

99% of computers are only partially protected against improper content.

Most children haven’t been properly educated about Internet safety.

Inappropriate websites like pornography, hate, and violence are only one-click away from children viewing them.

Internet filters don’t work contrary to popular belief.

Personally, being a father of 4 and a Christian Pastor, I understand how dangerous the Internet can be and that’s why we have decided to dedicate our time to help protect children online.

Step 4: If your children try to bypass the Noah’s Internet browser by using a non-secure or unprotected browser to surf the Internet, they will be disallowed access and sent back into Noah’s Internet.
